For those that have experience with typical RV steps you know they are at best challenging to work with and far less safe while entering and exiting an RV.

The gap from the last step of your RV to the ground is commonly much higher than the typical rise in RV steps. To fix this issue, some folks take matters into their own hands. Often people purchase collapsing stool steps or improvise with a jury-rigged platform to put underneath to shorten the gap in step rise.

Another challenge occurs when parked on a swell or a small hill that will not allow the bottom step to fold out requiring a shovel to dig out a place for the step to deploy. For those that have difficulty with mobility, the step configuration becomes a significant challenge.

Almost all RV steps are made from steel and are susceptible to rust which leads to seized steps and hinge failures.

We want to see these #rvstepfails or step stories that you see while camping. If you or someone you know has ever come up with a creative way to fix this step issue, send us your pictures and stories on our Twitter feed @Torklift or by clicking here to email

You will be netered into a montly drawing for a chance to win prizes!

We had just purchased our new motorhome and embarked on a maiden voyage to Colorado in October. After travelling on ice and snow for two days we parked in front of a friends house along a curb. After checking for clearance we put the automatic step out. The next morning we left knowing the step would retract automatically when we closed the door. Upon starting out I heard a loud scrape and a bang so I stopped and looked only to find my mangled step hanging by one bolt. It appears the block of ice that was under my front tire last night melted and the step did not retract. It drug along the curb until it hit a joint in the concrete where it demolished the step. I learned to always listen for the step to retract before driving off.

The ink wasn't even dry on the contract to buy our new truck camper during the Grand Opening of a new RV dealership location. We took one last look at our new camper before putting the paperwork in the truck and joining the celebration. I hear this "Splat!" behind me and see my wife has tripped. RV steps not completely installed yet as some parts are in a box on the bed in the camper.

Sitting in the Grand Opening party cookout in front of all the employees and family my wife is sitting with a bag of ice on her face.

Talk about completely ruining the joy of a new big purchase wondering if we need to go to the hospital emergency room or not! Welcome to your first day of RV camping honey! Fat lip, scab on cheek and skinned knee. Would love some safe steps for the wife and dogs. Let alone Me, Myself, and I! Yes, the first thing we ordered for our new camper was a first aid kid with instant cold packs!

Yeah, wish list has all the bells and whistles: Glowstep, handrails, safestep pet guards, glow in the dark, All Terrain Landing Gear ...

We were out on our maiden voyage of our new trailer. I sent my family and friends out to the beach while I made dinner for our Taco feed. I went to step out of the trailer onto a 3-step and the top step moved. I fell from inside my trailer to the ground. I was badly hurt and alone for two hours. I ended up in a cast for two months.

My mother who is 93 likes to go camping but the camper steps are an issue. Back in September 2015 my mother fell getting out of the camper she was skinned up and bruised but no broken bones. I am looking for some safe steps and would be happy if you would choose our family for a free set of steps.

We have a 2013 Lance 992 and it's great except for the rear step. We had until this year two Labs, the larger one being 105lbs. I had to lift them out and lift them in, with lots of coaxing. We lost both dogs last year and have kind of lost our desire to camp but we are trying to come back. We are going to try Fostering Labs this year, as we want to try camping for a year without dogs and see how that goes. I've always wanted to change the step to Glowsteps -- when you guys came up with 8" ones I was going to get them but then we lost the dogs from old age. Now I was waiting or putting it off because I want to see how your new bumper will work with our camper. I belong to LOA and will keep an eye out.

Well thanks for listening, Garnet
